“Big Poppa” de The Notorious B.I.G. es una canción de hip-hop de la Costa Este, dirty rap, G-funk e influenciada por el R&B, perteneciente a su álbum de estudio debut, Ready to Die. Fue lanzada el 24 de diciembre de 1994 como el segundo sencillo del álbum a través de Bad Boy Records y Arista Records, con “Warning” como cara A y “Who Shot Ya?” como cara B. La canción fue escrita por Christopher Wallace, junto con Ronald, Ernest, Marvin, O’Kelly y Rudolph Isley, y Chris Jasper, debido al uso de un sample de The Isley Brothers.

Sus elementos musicales principales incluyen un ritmo de hip-hop lento, instrumentación soul sampleada, un bajo suave, texturas de teclado, un silbido de Minimoogy el estilo vocal profundo y relajado de Biggie. El resultado es una mezcla pulida de rap y R&B que ayudó a definir el lado más suave del hip-hop de Bad Boy en la década de 1990.

La producción fue moldeada por Chucky Thompson, Sean “Puffy” Combsy Nashiem Myrick, con la base creada a partir del sample de los Isley Brothers en The Hit Factory en la ciudad de Nueva York. El video musical se rodó a finales de 1994 y se estrenó en BET y MTV durante la semana que finalizó el 11 de diciembre de 1994. Cuenta con apariciones especiales de varias figuras importantes del hip-hop y R&B de los años 90, incluyendo a Mary J. Blige, Misa Hylton, Faith Evans, Craig Mack, Lil’ Kim, Busta Rhymes, y Treach de Naughty by Nature.

“Big Poppa” recibió una nominación al Grammy a la mejor interpretación solista de rap en 1996 y sigue siendo una de las canciones más aclamadas del catálogo de The Notorious B.I.G.
